Organisers to be the first sponsers of face of henley competition

Two of the organisers of the Face of Henley competition have offered to be the first business to sponsor the contest, which this year replaces the existing Miss Henley event.

Sarah Flindall and Karen Smith, who are directors of Alter Egos Ltd., have set the ball rolling by offering a donation to the competition. And local solicitor, Toby Greenwood of Cooper Son and Caldecott, in West Street, has offered his service to establish The Face of Henley as a charity.

Jane Moss, the third member of the organising committee, said they will be contacting businesses to ask for support. “We will be raising money for those less fortunate than the majority of people in Henley and the surrounding area,” said Jane.

“We want all young ladies, mums and grandmas to think of the wonderful prizes they could win, as well as becoming the talk of the town.”

Esme Walker, the current Miss Henley, says that she has thoroughly enjoyed her reign but the time has come to change the format.

“I am honoured that I will become the last Miss Henley,” she said. “It is sad that the competition is ending after such a long run, but the time has come for a change.

“I have had a wonderful year and enjoyed meeting so many people and attending such a wide range of events. I wish the first Face of Henley all the very best and hope she enjoys her year in office.”

Anyone wishing to sponsor the event can write to The Face of Henley, c/o the Henley Standard.

Entry forms will be published in the paper in June, three months before the judging which will take place at the Henley Show in September.
